Mercedes Moment Captures Close To $40,000 for Home Nursing Agency's Hospice Program

Allan Hancock Holds Winning Numbers for Mercedes SUV

The First Annual Mercedes Moment sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield to benefit the Agency's Hospice Program and Foundation was hailed a great success. The event debuted in conjunction with the Agency's summer party/auction on June 7 at the Laurel Lodge, Duncansville.

The highlight of the event was the Mercedes Moment with the 7 p.m. announcement of the Pennsylvania Lottery's three-digit number. A total of 1,000 tickets were sold at $50 each.

Allan G. Hancock, East Freedom, held the winning numbers - 161. Hancock also won a year's supply of Sheetz Gasoline and a year's worth of car washes from Johnny on the Spot.

Hancock is a long-standing member of Home Nursing Agency's Foundation Board and serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Hancock Group Inc. in Altoona.

“I cannot believe this. I have never won anything in my life,” said an astonished Hancock. Hancock had the option of keeping the Mercedes ML350 SUV or trading it for $25,000 cash. He chose the Mercedes.

The Hancock Group was one of 20 proud sponsors of the event. Home Nursing Agency President/CEO Robert Packer extends a heartfelt thanks to Hancock and his staff for their continued support and dedication to Agency programs.

“The community dollars raised from events like the Mercedes Moment are reinvested right back into local communities and are targeted for the essential needs of in-home hospice care. These dollars also perpetuate the Agency's steadfast mission of providing health care for anyone in need - regardless of their ability to pay,” said Packer.

Packer applauds the generosity exhibited on behalf of the Friends of the Foundation, local businesses, restaurants and other non-profit organizations that contributed their time and talent to ensure a successful event. “It takes tremendous effort, a great deal of planning and community support to make it happen.”

Hospice Medical Director Thrilled By Community Support

Dr. Michael Gerard-Moncman is thrilled by the community's show of support for a noble cause that ensures hospice is available for those who embrace the philosophies behind it.

“I want to thank those who displayed such great generosity. They truly opened their hearts and minds to benefit Home Nursing Agency's Hospice Program. Now more than ever, people are educated on medical options and have greater access to information about the type of care they desire and if they choose hospice, we want to be there for them,” Dr. Moncman said.

Hospice differs from traditional healthcare in many ways. For one, Dr. Moncman firmly believes that hospice exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care and promotion of a caring community sensitive to their needs - patients and their families have a better chance of attaining a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them.
