Home Nursing Agency Recognizes Employees, Honors Volunteers

Home Nursing Agency's Employee and Volunteer Recognition Brunch boasted a record-breaking attendance of 490 guests consisting of employees, volunteers and retirees. The event, held last month at the Blair County Convention Center, also commemorated the Agency's ranking as the fifth Best Place to Work in Pennsylvania among large companies after Best Companies Group conducted an independent, random survey of all full and part-time employees and audit of best practices.

A Volunteer of the Year was selected for the first time and presented to Helen Rosch of Altoona. She was recognized for her dedication to the mission of the Agency and to the spirit of volunteerism, which has greatly impacted the lives of those in need throughout the community.

In addition to the 160 employees who were presented awards for perfect attendance, years of service and participation in the Agency's fitness initiative, five employees garnered special recognition. The Commitment to Community award was presented to Ted Kiffer of Petersburg, who is the hospice chaplain for Home Nursing Agency's Hospice Program in Huntingdon County. Pastor Kiffer provides bereavement and spiritual support to the Agency's hospice patients and their loved ones. The award is presented annually to the employee most exemplifying the ideals and values of the agency.

The Extra Effort award was presented to Linda Gibbons of Altoona, a nutrition assistant for Home Nursing Agency's Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) in Altoona, and to Diana Horten of Cresson, who serves as a mobile psychiatric nurse throughout Blair County for Home Nursing Agency's Behavioral Health/Community Services Program. The award is given to individuals who consistently and willingly go beyond the call of duty to make a difference for co-workers and people who are entrusted within the Agency's care.

Carrolltown resident Rita Craig, a home health aide for Home Nursing Agency's Hospice Program in Cambria County, received the Hand and Hearts award, which recognizes a Homemaker/Home Health Aide who demonstrate a strong commitment to the values of the Agency through a caring and respectful attitude for individuals and families entrusted to their care.

The Spirit Award recognizes employees who consistently remain non-judgmental, reflect genuine care, exhibit abundant energy and humor. Altoona resident Ernie Skibo accepted the award. He is a program assistant for Home Nursing Agency's Adult Center for Exceptional Learning (ACEL) Program in Lakemont.

Over the past year, the Agency served over 20,000 individuals throughout Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Huntingdon, Franklin and Fulton Counties. As a non-profit and CHAP accredited organization, Home Nursing Agency has demonstrated innovation and responsiveness for nearly 40 years by helping to expand and diversify the community's health network to include private duty, homecare, hospice/palliative care, telehealth, adult day services and mental health/drug and alcohol counseling as well as numerous community-based initiatives such as Nurse-Family Partnership, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and AIDS Intervention Project.
