AGENCY STAFF ON THE MOVE...
PSU Nursing Grads Heed Advice from Agency VP

Kim Kranz, Vice-President of Home Nursing Agency In-Home Services, provided words of wisdom during her Pinning speech, as part of commencement ceremonies for Penn State University's 2006 Class of Nurses at the Altoona Campus. In addition to her role at the Agency, Kim serves as a part-time nursing instructor at the Altoona Campus. Over 200 people gathered at the Alder Complex on May 26 for commencement exercises and to congratulate the future healthcare professionals, who have pursued and completed one of the most distinguished degrees available to students today.

Kim reminded graduates and their families just how vital the nation's nurses are to patients, their families and society, but more importantly, how much 'power' nurses hold in achieving much-needed reform in nursing and healthcare. At 2.9 million strong, nurses represent the largest group of healthcare workers in America.

"You are the primary source of care and support for patients at the most vulnerable points in their lives. Nearly every person's healthcare experience involves an RN….and you are the cornerstone of that experience," said Kim.

"Today's nurses must have the Strength to care for patients during times of disaster and crisis; they must have the Commitment to remain involved in continuing education throughout their careers; and they must have the Compassion it takes to provide hands-on patient care at the bedside - as they've done throughout the centuries."

We couldn't have made it without you." -- Jodi Harker, Imperial

Cambria County Area Agency on Aging Partners with Agency on Disease Management
As part of an on-going effort to help seniors prevent and manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, Home Nursing Agency and the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging have partnered to offer free glucose testing at senior centers throughout Cambria County during the month of June.

"Our primary goal is to empower seniors to manage their diseases by providing them with the knowledge and tools to do so," said Sharon Hartnett, coordinator of PrimeTime Health, which leads the county's health promotion efforts for the Area Agency of Aging.

"We want to educate seniors on preventative measures, and even the current treatment options," added Hartnett. PrimeTime Health is providing the funding for the glucose testing supplies, and Home Nursing Agency Patient Care Coordinator, Lynn Watt, will perform the glucose screenings. Blood pressure screenings were also held in conjunction with the glucose testing.
