Area Residents Complete Hospice Training
Compassion lies at the core of the Home Nursing Agency Hospice Program and specially trained volunteers are at the 'Heart of Hospice'. Pictured left to right include area residents that have recently completed hospice volunteer training through Home Nursing Agency - Barbara White, Blair County; Linda Weko, Huntingdon County; Paula Craw, Blair County; Nancy Weimer, Blair County; and Diane Turcovsky, Blair County.
Home Nursing Agency hospice volunteers gave over 3,000 hours of service last year throughout Blair, Huntingdon, Cambria, Centre and Bedford Counties. Volunteer training classes include the hospice philosophy of care, communication skills, understanding family dynamics, stress management, terminal illness, pain control, and bereavement support. Classes prepare volunteers to provide various services and to meet the individual needs of hospice patients and caregivers.
These volunteers are an integral part of a team of caring professionals. Volunteers provide support and relief for the family and companionship for the patients.
Hospice is a special kind of care offered by a team of professionals and volunteers, who offer support and compassion around-the-clock for people experiencing a life-limiting illness so that they may live as comfortably as possible.
